On Tuesday, it was announced that Tuckahoe Schools were chosen as the recipient of this year’s Lower Hudson Regional Information Center’s Pioneer Award, which is awarded annually to a school district, teacher and director of technology in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties.
The Lower Hudson Regional Information Center’s Pioneer Award recognizes innovations in the use of technology that help improve both teaching and the learning experience for students.
Under Nuzzi, who was hired in 2013, the district has stressed the importance of technology in the classroom, including the outfitting of every classroom with Google Chromebooks courtesy of the “Technology for All” initiative.
Since kicking off the technological initiative, the district imported more than 700 Chromebooks, have held collaborative workshops with fellow educators in Bronxville and even enjoyed a visit from top officials with Samsung to see Tuckahoe students using their technology to learn firsthand.
According Nuzzi, criteria for earning the Pioneer Award “includes having a direct impact on instruction, being sustainable and having the ability to be a model for the region,” she said.
“The award comes on the heels of an ambitious year in which the district immersed itself in technology through the development of a one-on-one environment where every student in grades three through 12 was assigned a Chromebook device.”
