The new eGovernance initiative, BoardDocs, will replace the former method of compiling, printing, binding and distributing paper agenda packets by hand. This will allow the district to maximize the effectiveness of board meetings, increasing transparency with the public and saving thousands of dollars annually.

According to recently instated Superintendent Barbara Nuzzi, electronic distribution will save time, resources and give unprecedented access to agenda items and other school board related information. All of this will be available on the Tuckahoe School District website.

“This process will allow interested parties to review information prior to board meetings,” she said. “After the meeting, individuals can review the agenda items and see what action was taken by the board, complete with voting results.”

All documents that are associated with a specific meeting will be archived and can be accessed at any time using the system. Since it will take less time to distribute the materials, it will afford board members and residents in the community more time to review agenda information. Using the old method, it would take staff members nearly two days to assemble the documents into packets before handing them off to board members.

According to the school district, nearly 600 governing bodies around the country have adopted the BoardDoc system. Resident Bobby Ricci said that he likes the progress that has already been made in the new superintendent’s short time with the district.

“Anything that gives us more access is a good thing,” he said while exercising near the high school. “We have a great school district, and it seems to be heading in the right direction.”
