Tuckahoe Students To Return To School Wednesday

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – Students may notice several changes in personnel and the course catalog as they return to the Tuckahoe School District on Wednesday.

Carl Albano, former principal of the Tuckahoe Middle School, has been promoted to assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and pupil personnel services. Taking over Albano’s responsibilities as principal is Timothy Mundell, who brings 12 years of administrative experience to the district.

Johanna Tramantano is the new assistant principal for the high school and middle school. Bryan Costa, a former guidance counselor in Rockland County, moves to the high school. Christine Contreras will be a new Spanish teacher, and Michaela Harel, a Juilliard and Yale graduate, will be the new chorus director.

A few changes are also occurring at William E. Cottle Elementary School. Peter Kilgallen has been promoted to assistant principal after serving as its dean of students and math intervention specialist for the past five years. A new Strings Music Program will be offered to students in grades 3 through 5, taught by Lubima Kalinkova-Shentov. Former Rye School District employee Leslie King Morris will be the school’s new physical education teacher.

The high school has a new debate team and new Advanced Placement courses, and elementary students have a new after-school Spanish Language Program, Superintendent Edward J. Reilly said. The kindergarten has a new play area, and the library installed new carpeting, courtesy of funds provided by the after-school program TASC and the Tuckahoe School Foundation.

“As you can see, the Tuckahoe Schools are more than ready to kick off an exciting and memorable new school year,” Reilly said in a letter to parents.
