Westchester Student Earns National Attention In World Languages

New Canaan Country School students made a strong showing in the recent 2018 National World Languages exams.

In Spanish, of the 34,600 students who sat for the exam nationwide, four Gold medals - the highest possible prize – were awarded to New Canaan Country School students, placing eighth grader Ellie Hanson in the top 4 percent, and ninth graders Shane Carbin of Norwalk, Georgia Rivero of New Canaan and Hannah Nightingale of Rowayton in the top 1 percent of the United States.

Additional accolades went to seventh graders Sofie Petricone of Rowayton and Mac Ryan of Pound Ridge who earned the highest possible prize on their Latin exam, and to eighth grader Cody Comyns of New Canaan, who earned a Maxima Cum Laude medal in Latin.

In French, eighth graders Seth Yoo of Pound Ridge and Alexandra Matthews of Stamford placed in the top 5 percent in their national contest. Mandarin Chinese.

New Canaan Country School is a co-ed, independent, day school for students in Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) through Grade 9.
