Ryan was recognized for her athletic and academic achievements by a panel of athletic directors and coaches.

Ryan has won seven state gold medals and 17 Section I gold medals, according to a release from the Bronxville Union Free School District. She has also received All-League, All-County and All-Section honors 14 times, the release said.

At the New York State Championships on Saturday, March 4, she won the girls State Public School and Federation 1,000-meter titles.  At the Westchester County Championships on Jan. 27, she won the 1,000-meter race and broke her own meet record in this event by three seconds, and anchored the championship 3,200-meter relay.

The week before at the Yale Interscholastic Track Classic, Ryan anchored the distance medley relay; and at the League 3B Championship on Jan. 15, she won the 600-meter and 1,500-meter races.

Ryan finished sixth in the Girls Invitational High School Mile at the Millrose Games and finished second in the 1,000-meter race at the Armory Track Invitational, both in early February.

At the Armory, she also won the 1,500-meter race and became the Section I Class C champion in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 2:48:42 for another personal best and school record. Her time is currently second in the state and third in the nation, according to the release.

In addition to her dedication on the track, Ryan is taking a demanding course load consisting of Advanced Placement and honors-level classes. She tutors middle and high school students in all subject areas, and has volunteered with one of the special education classes in the elementary school and during a summer program.

She is also a member of the chorus and has excelled in all academic areas, the release said.

“She totally dedicates herself to everything she sets out to do,” Counseling Department Director Anne Abbatecola said. “Kaitlin is intelligent, patient, independent, determined, modest and caring. Young women with the combination of great intelligence, personal integrity and athletic talent such as hers, are rare.”

Ryan will attend Stanford University in the fall where she will continue her academic and athletic pursuits. She aspires to a career in medicine, possibly pediatrics.
