Bronxville's Mary Cain Sets 5,000-Meter Track Record

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Just a week after breaking the American Junior and National High School record in the 800-meter race at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, Bronxville High School  junior Mary Cain eclipsed the 5,000-meter high school record Saturday. According to FloTrack.org, Cain ran a time of 15:45.46 in the 5,000-meter race at the 2013 Portland Track Festival running past the former National High School record held by Emily Sisson, who now runs for Providence College. Cain gained the USA “A” standard in the event by running under 15:46.00. According to coach Alberto Salazar, the goal at the Portland Track Festival was to simply achieve the standard in case anything went wrong in the 1500m at the U.S. Championships. The dynamic Cain run is now fifth on the all-time  U.S. women junior list for the 5,000. The record of 15:36.95 is held by Molly Huddle from 2003.
