TUCKAHOE, N.Y. The Tuckahoe Tigers began the 2011 season the way they ended the 2010 season, winning with a strong defense that held visiting Rye Neck scoreless in a 21-0 victory at Tuckahoe High School.
Mike DiLago scored on a 20-yard option pass from running back Shyheim Nixon and a 3-yard run, and Nixon rushed for 85 yards on five carries to lead the defensing Class D state champion Tigers (1-0). DiLago also kicked two extra points.
You show class, have pride, and display character, DiLago said of his teams effort. If you do winning takes care of itself."
Tuckahoe scored in the first quarter on a 30-yard touchdown pass play from sophomore quarterback Mike Castracucco, who made his first varsity start and completed 3 of 8 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. The Tigers running game produced 255 yards on 28 carries for an average of 9.1 yards per carry.
DiLago said the Tigers, who went 10-1 last year in their championship season, are working to improve and grow. He has added placekicking to his game.
Its too early to tell right now but we are trying to get better each and every day and to go hard every game, DiLago said. This is my first year kicking. Can the Tigers repeat as Section 1 and state champions? Tell us on The Daily Eastchester/Facebook
