Dobbs Ferry, Tuckahoe In Football Clash of Classes

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Tuckahoe and Dobbs Ferry, two unbeaten small-school football powers, will clash Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Tuckahoe for bragging rights in Section 1's Class C and D.

The hometown Tigers (3-0), the Class D state champion in 2006 and 2010, will test current Class C state champion Dobbs Ferry, also unbeaten in its first three games of the 2012 season.

"Being an inexperienced team last year, we came away with a lot," Tigers running back/linebacker Nick Reisman said of last year's failure to win the Section 1 title. "This year we're just looking to improve on our weaknesses and reduce the mistakes we make."

Dobbs Ferry has more than Class C pride on the line. The Eagles have won 14 straight games since falling to Bronxville last year on opening day. This year, Dobbs Ferry has breezed through victories over Haldane (19-8), Burke Catholic 42-30) and Pawling (27-0).

The Eagles depend on running back Tim Soave, who has already compiled more than 800 yards and scored eight touchdowns in three games. Stop Soave if you can and you may beat the Eagles.

Tuckahoe has outscored Pawling, Rye Country Day School and Hastings 78-7 in three easy wins to set up Saturday's game. Reisman, halfback Shyheim Nixon, quarterback Mike Castracucco and wideout Kayon Reid lead the Tigers offense and defense.

"The win over Rye Country Day put our season in perspective," Nixon said. "This week at practice is going to be a good one. We're already so anxious for Saturday. But like our coach says, the games are won Monday through Friday in practice. Both teams are definitely ready to get to it, but we've got a lot to play for this week."

This will be a test of Dobbs Ferry's inside strength on both sides of the line against Tuckahoe's speed and skill in one of the highlight games of the season.
