LINCOLNDALE, N.Y. The visiting Eastchester Eagles fell 21 points behind, made a valiant rally and fell just short Friday in a 28-14 loss to Somers.
We have a great team, Eagles lineman Tom Cirillo said. We are 3-4, but the games we lost except to Poughkeepsie were close hard-fought battles. We are going to keep working hard even though playoffs are out of the picture and we are going to come out like the last two games are playoff games. We just need to keep our heads up and keep playing great football.
Somers (5-2) will move on to next weeks Class A playoffs where they await seeding and an opponent for the first round. Eastchester (3-4) was eliminated from the Section 1 playoffs, but will play in two more non playoff games.
Stefano Bicknese and Joe Lombardo each scored on running plays in the first quarter and Somers quarterback Dylan McGuire hit Joe Festo with a 13-yard touchdown pass to stretch the Tuskers' lead to 21-0 before the Eagles could respond.
Eastchester quarterback Greg DiCarlo broke an 84-yard touchdown run to pull the Eagles to within 21-7 at halftime, then scored on a 32-yard run in the third quarter to make the score 21-14 going into the fourth quarter.
Bicknese closed out the Eagles comeback try with a 57-yard touchdown run the fourth quarter.
