Eastchester Blue Devils Football Sweeps Rockland

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Eastchester Blue Devils Mitey Mites, Pee Wees and Junior Midgets youth football teams travelled to Rockland County and brought back victories in all three divisions.

The Mitey Mites (7, 8. 9 year olds) topped the Monroe Crusaders 6-0 at Monroe-Woodbury High School with a strong defense leading the way in one of the contests last Sunday.

"Our defense has yet to allow a point against us in our first two games and only gave up one first down in those two games," Mitey Mites coach Chris Cooper said. Derek Robertson scored the first and only touchdown of the game with a quarterback keeper from about the 5-yard line and fullback Jack Brien had close to a 100-yard game and was aided by Henry Donahue and Christian Batista who also ran for positive yards.

"Our end, Gosuke Kato, had a great catch that allowed Derek to score," Cooper said. "Our offensive line of Ryan Cooper, Roger Burwell, Alex Russo, Mike Popov and Andrew Lubrino fought a great battle allowing our backs to get the yards they had."

Matt Sabatino intercepted a Monroe pass, which allowed the Mites to take a knee with 12 seconds left to clinch the win. The 2-0 Mitey Mites will play New City Sunday at Haindl Field in Eastchester. Pee Wee Power.

The Eastchester Blue Devils Jr. Pee Wee team (9, 10, 11 year olds) travelled to Nyack on Sunday morning to take on the Valley Cottage Indians after having won its opener 13-12 against North Rockland the previous week.

The young Blue Devils were victorious again, coming away with a 12-0 win over Valley Cottage in a low scoring game between two strong programs. The Devils scored early on an off-tackle run by C.J. Watford. Good line blocking by Eric Darcy and Andrew Cade paved the way for Watford's 45-yard run. The point after touchdown failed.

The Devils scored again in the second quarter, again on the legs of halfback Watford. The point after was missed again. The Blue Devil line opened several hole for the running game, featuring fullback Drew Walpole and halfback Richie Ricketts. Line coach Ralph Zingaro cited the play of Nick Cooper, Vincent Bonfiglio and Remi Laurence for the team's success. In what turned out to be a defensive battle in the second half.

Perry Guilianti, Matthew Spataro, Alexander Rossi and Anthony Lestrange all played well.

The Jr. Pee Wees will host the New City Rams, Sunday at Haindl Field in Eastchester at 9 a.m.

Devils Junior Midgets Prevail

The Devils Junior Midgets recovered from a tough opening –day loss on September 4 and rolled to a 20-0 victory over Monroe sparked by the trio of Jordan Gunther, Christian Roselle and John Guido, each of whom scored a touchdown and were outstanding both offensively and defensively. The quarterback play of Mike A. was flawless because of the offensive and defensive line led by the Blume brothers, Bryson Welch, Zack Zimbardo and Tom Murphy.
