Eastchester Blue Devils Open Season on High Note

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Eastchester Blue Devils youth football program kicked off its 44th season with a family outing Friday and opening games on Sunday at Haindl Field, winning three games over the visiting teams from North Rockland.

“We had Eastchester Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita speak, Legislator Sheila Marcotte, one of two Eastchester Hall of famers Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Telesco and one of our founding fathers and first president Mr. Bob Russel,” said Chris Cooper, Blue Devils president. “The cheerleaders put on a wonderful show for the crowd to end the ceremonies.”

The Mitey Mites, Junior Pee Wee's, Pee Wee's and Junior Midgets hosted North Rockland while the Midgets played Valley Cottage. The Mitey Mites won 20-0, Jr. Pee Wee's 13-12 and the Pee Wee's won 28-13.

The Blue Devils were established in 1967 and have grown from a program of 40 children to well over 400 boys and girls participating in football, cheerleading and lacrosse. The adult membership support group includes over 100 members.

The Blue Devils have eight more regular season games remaining beginning with three teams heading up to Monroe at Smith Clove Park Sunday to battle it out with the Crusaders, and one team visiting Nyack to face the Valley Cottage Indians.

“The Blue Devils have brought back bus travel so that players may travel as a team every Sunday we are away,” Cooper said. “We are looking forward to a great season. Let's go Blue Devils.”
