Eastchester, the No. 2 seed, trailed 21-13 in the fourth quarter, then scored a touchdown and attempted a two-point conversion, hoping to tie the game – but was denied by the Warriors defense, leaving the score at 21-19. Lourdes then sealed the win with an insurance touchdown from Joe Scaglione with 2:48 to play.
Lourdes, which has won the last two Class B championships, plays for the Class A title this year.
Coach Brian Walsh, in his sixth season as Warriors coach after coaching at both John Jay-East Fishkill and Brewster, will be taking the team to its fifth finals during that span. Lourdes has won three championships under Walsh.
"Defensively, Chris Mulvey did a great job for us," Walsh told Daily Voice. "Billy Wagner also had a good game with an interception, and defensively we did what we had to do. They are a very explosive team. Luke Timm came up big for us, and Dean Rotger also had a huge game for us.
"It feels great to get to the finals again," Walsh added. "This is a very hard-working group and it's always nice… We'll go out, prepare, and see what we can do."
Saturday's Class A championship game will be played at Dutchess Stadium at 11 a.m.
