Eastchester Hits Three Home Runs In Baseball Win

VALHALLA, N.Y. – Eastchester wasted little time with a power surge Tuesday in its Section 4 Little League Baseball Majors Tournament game with New Rochelle.

Tsubasa Yuhara ripped a solo home run in the first inning, the first of the team's three as Eastchester flexed its collective muscle in a 5-2 win over New Rochelle in a loser’s bracket game at Pat Henry Field.

The win atoned for a 13-6 loss to New Rochelle in Saturday's first-round game.

Eastchester plays Poughkeepsie in the losers bracket final at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pat Henry Field. The winner advances to the title game against Stony Point at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Pat Henry Field.

Jonathan Limekiller led off the second inning with a home run and Nick Koutoulas added a two-run clout in the fifth. Eastchester has now hit eight home runs in the last two games. Alston Tarry belted two Monday in a game won by Eastchester’s on John Doherty’s grand slam.

“We have been having good batting practices,” Koutoulas said. “We’ve all been getting good swings and we are carrying that over to the game.

“Coach has been mixing in a lot of curve balls in batting practice. He always tells us to look fastball and then adjust for a curve ball.”

Koutoulas said he was expecting a curve ball, and he got it, when he connected on his two-run homer.

Limekiller hit his first home run of the summer. Even though he did not start, he led off the second inning and deposited a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left field.

“Coach told me I was going to hit so I just got ready mentally to hit the ball,” said Limekiller, 12, a seventh-grader-to-be at Eastchester Middle School. “I was looking for a fastball and it was a fastball high in the zone.

“It felt great when I hit it. I was waiting for that, a home run, all summer.”

Overshadowed in the home-run barrage was the performance of Yuhara. The right-hander allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings.

New Rochelle scored its’ runs in the fifth inning on a double by Mat Almonte and an RBI single from Joel Goncalves, who scored on an error.
