Eastchester Hosts Byram Hills In Season Opener

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. — Eastchester High School quarterback Greg DiCarlo will have one very important thing going for him as the 2012 season opens Friday night with a visit from Byram Hills under the lights at Haindl Field: another year of experience.

DiCarlo, who is the nephew of Eagles head coach Fred DiCarlo, led the team last season in his junior year, and should be a year smarter, tougher and more determined.

“We are all really looking forward to Friday night and are very excited,” Greg DiCarlo said. “For a lot of players, it’s going to be their first varsity starts. We need to play hard and play as a team. We are no longer going to be a predominately run team. We are going to open it up more this season and pass more.”

Coach DiCarlo, who has led the Eagles to seven consecutive winning seasons, has had to overcome several key injuries over the last two 5-4 campaigns.

Expect the Eagles to force defensive into mistakes with their option offense, and DiCarlo is capable of running and passing the ball. Eagles runningbacks Jake Calby and Jake Scannel make the backfield potent and the options difficult for defenses to deal with.

Byram Hills features quarterback Mike DiCristofaro, fullback Connor Morley, moving the interior offense, and halfback Brendan Rosen, using his outside speed and quick feet to eat up yardage. The Eagles defense will have to be ready for both. The visiting Bobcats are not as strong on defense, and the Eagles will be able to move the ball.

The Eagles defeated the Bobcats 20-13 last year and hope to repeat that result Friday.

“After a year of experience and more confidence, I will have some very talented receivers to throw to,” DiCarlo said. “Everyone needs to know their assignments and we are going to take the season one game at a time.”
