Throughout the day funds will be raised to support the Building for America’s Bravest program.

Building for America’s Bravest is a program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. BFAB builds smart homes for injured service members as they return home from service. The smart home is custom-designed to address the unique needs of each individual, helping service members live more independent lives.

“As a nation, it is important for us to show our appreciation to our service members as they return home. Unfortunately, many of our brave service men and women return home with catastrophic injuries. It is those service members whom our fundraiser is driven to support,” said Stephen J. Huvane, co-chair of Eastchester’s 2016 BFAB Fundraiser Committee.

The Sports Field Day schedule is as follows.

  • 11 a.m. -- Varsity baseball (EHS field).
  • 3 p.m. -- Girls varsity lacrosse (EHS field).
  • 6 p.m. -- Girls varsity softball (Haindl Field, Eastchester).
  • 7:30 p.m. -- VFW Military Color Guard (Haindl Field, Eastchester).
  • 8 p.m. -- Boys varsity lacrosse (Haindl Field, Eastchester).

“Our Sports Field Day combines athletic events with the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for a very worthy cause, building smart homes for our wounded service members. It’s great to see how eager our Eastchester High School students are as they step forward to help our brave troops in their time of need,” said Jason Karol, Eastchester High School athletic director.

There will be several ways to donate, including a raffle with the chance to win New York sporting event tickets, restaurant gift certificates and a golf foursome prize. The waiting list for smart homes is long, and for every home the Building For America’s Bravest program builds, another three veterans join the list.
