Eastchester Starts Play in Section 4 Championship

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Eastchester will return to the field Tuesday when the District 20 titlists begin play in the Section 4 Little League Softball 9-10-year-old Championship at Walkill Little League. Eastchester opens with District 18 champion South Orangetown, of Rockland County, 6 p.m.

The six-team tournament runs through Sunday. The championship game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. If a second game is needed, it will be played Monday, 5:30 p.m.  Along with Eastchester and South Orangetown are Brewster (District 33), Cornwall (District 19), Hyde Park (District 17) and the District 21 champ.

Eastchester last played July 7, but the layoff has not made the team complacent. “We gave the girls a couple of days off to enjoy the moment, but they have refocusd on the fundamentals,” Eastchester coach Ken Graham said. “We are emphasizing being aggressive in all aspects, offensively and defensively, and staying relaxed, but focused.”

Graham said the team is anxiously awaiting games again. “They recognized what they accomplished was special, going through the districts undefeated,” he added. “They want to keep the momentum going. They are confident, but excited, like they were before the first district game and I am hoping it has the same outcome.”
