Jasmine Robinson Is Greenburgh Athlete Of The Month

ELMSFORD, N.Y. – Alexander Hamilton girls varsity basketball coach Benjamin Carter faced a difficult situation in early February when two of his starters were sidelined with injuries.

Senior Jasmine Robinson scored 21 points in the championship game as Alexander Hamilton won its second consecutive Section 1 Class C girls basketball title.

But senior Jasmine Robinson stepped up and provided the team with the leadership and scoring it needed. The Greenburgh Daily Voice February Athlete of the Month was just what Carter and the team needed.

“We always knew Jasmine had the leadership ability in her,” Carter said.

Robinson, a four-year varsity player, and the point guard was always looking to set up Maia Hood or Tiffany Corselli for baskets, but they were injured. Robinson took it upon herself to be more assertive offensively but to not lose focus of taking charge on the court.

“I told Jasmine that she has always been able to make the plays for all of the other girls in practice and in games,” Carter said. “And that she had the skills to make herself an even better player. She began to realize she could do it.”

Robinson stepped up, big time, in a loss to Blind Brook, scoring a career-high 34 points. She kept Hamilton in the game until Blind Brook pulled away.

“Jasmine wanted to show that we are not a one-person team now that Tiffany is back,” Carter said.

Even though Robinson has become more offensive-minded, Carter said she has not lost sight of her strength on defense.

“When Jasmine walks into practice, she always wants to know who the top offensive player is on the team we are going to play,” Carter said. “When we tell her, she tells us, ‘OK, that’s my assignment.’

“This shows her eagerness and feistiness on defense. She wants that girl to know that she is going to be in for a tough game going against Jasmine.”
