Last September, Eastchester completed a town-owned, $6.5 million, eight-court tennis facility, dubbed “SPORTIME Lake Isle.” The facility has been chosen by International Tennis Hall of Famer John McEnroe as the Westchester home for his annual summer tennis camp.
The John McEnroe Tennis Academy currently trains many of the county’s top junior tennis players. This summer, instructors will provide training to Eastchester, Bronxville and Tuckahoe high school players, as well as other aspiring amateurs.
Although SPORTIME fully funded the construction of the facility, the town still maintains ownership and control. Each year, SPORTIME pays licensing fees in return for its operation of the facility that total 10 percent of every dollar spent at the courts. Eastchester residents also receive a 10 percent discount on all programs at SPORTIME.
Eastchester Athletic Director Jason Karol said the facility will allow the town to provide tennis instruction on a more permanent basis.
“As you know, our schools introduce and provide learning and playing opportunities for children in all the major sports, but we have not had the facilities or expertise to do so in tennis,” Karol said. “The town program can now do so, and on a year-round basis.”
Applications for summer camp, junior and adult tennis camp and the John McEnroe Tennis Academy can all be found online. Each camp will last a minimum of 10 weeks and will vary in cost depending on the dates, length and activity.
Completed applications can be mailed or faxed to the address or number listed. Any questions can be directed to SPORTIME’s Managing Director Eric Fromm at (914) 777-5151 or efromm@sportimeny.com.
