Dear Eastchester Community:

On behalf of the 2012-2013 Boys Varsity Basketball Team, I would like to thank all of you in the Eastchester community for your overwhelming support in our pursuit of the gold ball. This was our first visit to the County Center in nearly 40 years, and you certainly made it a gratifying trip.

In my 16 years as head coach and over 30 years of being involved in the Eastchester Basketball program, I have never seen the amount of Eagle Spirit that was displayed during our playoff run. Our two home playoff games were phenomenal. To see a gym enveloped in white made me feel such a sense of pride for our school, not only as a head coach but, more importantly, an alumnus. The support you gave made the players feel as if we had six players on the court against their five.

For many years I have gone to watch the final four at the County Center and dreamed of what it would be like for an Eagle team to be there. Would fans come? Would we get the community to rally behind us? To look up from the court and see the County Center cascading with Eastchester fans in full “white out” was one of the best moments I have ever had in my coaching career. It was magical to see students, faculty and residents come together to support our team in one of the biggest games in 40 years. I know I really appreciated the moment and the players were really excited and proud to play in front of our great fans. Though we fell short in our pursuit of the Section One championship, being embraced by the community made us feel like winners.

On behalf of our boys basketball program, thank you for making this an event that we will never forget. But, don’t put those white shirts away just yet. We aim to get back there next year to finish the job!

Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle.

Fred DiCarlo Head Coach EHS 1985
