EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Some of the top young swimming talents throughout Eastchester and Bronxville got a special treat this week, when an Olympic swimmer came to Lake Isle to train the local swim team.
Kim Vandenberg, who represented the United States in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, was on hand this week at Lake Isle to coach up the kids as they near completion of a rigorous summer camp.
Vandenberg - who won a bronze medal in Beijing while competing as part of the United State’s 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay - shared her experiences and expertise during a series of special lessons for one of Westchester County’s most prominent and popular swimming programs.
The Olympian’s visit comes fresh on the heels of the Lake Isle Swimming and Diving team claiming its ninth undefeated Division One championship. On Thursday, they will defend their conference championship at the Westchester County Country Club. On Sunday, they will host their annual awards dinner, celebrating the team and its top athletes.
