Satriale's Four Hits Fuel Eastchester Win

VALHALLA, N.Y. – John Satriale felt it during pregame batting practice Thursday.

“During batting practice, I felt like I was in a zone, because I was hitting the ball very well,” said Satriale, Eastchester’s left fielder and No. 2 hitter.

Satriale carried his hitting stroke into the game. He collected four hits, including a home run, leading Eastchester to a 12-10 win over Poughkeepsie in the losers bracket final of the Section 4 Little League Baseball Majors Championship at Pat Henry Field.

Eastchester, which has won three straight since losing its first game, will play Stony Point in the final at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Pat Henry Field. Eastchester must win to force a decisive game Saturday.

Eastchester amassed 18 hits, including three home runs – Tsubasa Yuhara, Mark DeLorenzo and Satriale. Satriale singled three times, including a key run-producing hit in the sixth inning. Nick Koutoulas, John Doherty and Yuhara each had three hits.

“We’ve had different guys step up each game, and I thought I could step up for us this game,” Satriale said. “After I got my first hit, I felt that good things would happen as long as I remained focused.”

Satriale singled in his first two at-bats before crushing a pitch over the fence in left field in the fourth. In the third inning, Satriale singled and scored in what would be a seven-run eruption. It was capped by Mark DeLorenzo’s three-run homer.

Eastchester would eventually push its lead to eight runs, 10-2, before Poughkeepsie came roaring back with seven runs in the fifth. Poughkeepsie had runners at second and third, with two outs, and cleanup hitter Austin Zakow up. Zakow had doubled twice and homered in his first three at-bats, but pitcher Danny Kripple induced him to ground out.

“After the fifth inning coach said we were very sloppy so we needed to wake up our bats in the top of the sixth,” Satriale said.

Alston Tarry and Satriale each had RBI singles, adding insurance runs.
