Top Stories 2012: Tuckahoe Football Regains Title

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – The Tuckahoe High School football team returned to its rightful place in Section 1 when the Tigers won the Class D football title.

Tuckahoe’s football championship was one of the top sports stories in 2012 in Tuckahoe and Eastchester.

The Tigers were the 2010 New York State Class D champs, but Haldane High School upset Tuckahoe in the 2011 Section 1 playoffs. Tuckahoe would get payback with a 35-6 dominant win in the championship game. Shyheim Nixon, who completed six of seven passes for 165 yards in his first game at quarterback, was selected the most valuable player.

Tuckahoe advanced to the state final but lost to Randolph High School of Section 6.

In other sports news:

The Eastchester Little League majors all-stars baseball and softball teams had championship summers as both won their respective District 20 titles.

The baseball team advanced to the Section 4 championship game and the softball team reached the losers’ bracket final of the Section 4 championship.

The baseball team was led by John Doherty, Tsubasa Yuhara, Anthony Satriale and Nick Koutoulas while Cassie McGrath, Sophia Tiso and Daniella “Speedy” Chiodi led the softball team.

The Eastchester High School boys 4x100 relay team set a new school mark while running in the Westchester County Track and Field Championships in May. The quartet of Fred Schmidt, Jon Adkins, Jack Calby and Grant Cohen clocked in at 44.43 seconds, erasing the former standard of 44.47, which was set in 1936.
