Tuckahoe Football Ends Dobbs Ferry's Win Streak

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Tuckahoe High School football team still had the 40-0 embarrassment at Dobbs Ferry last season on its mind when the two teams met Saturday.

But behind the running game of Nick Reisman, the Tigers stayed perfect and ended Dobbs Ferry’s 14-game winning streak with a convincing 38-14 win at home.

“It was great motivation. We weren’t feeling too good last year, at all,” Reisman said. “We’ve been waiting for this game since that day on that Friday. We knew we had to work hard and just work hard every single day, every snap.”

Reisman rushed for more than 200 yards and two scores in Tuckahoe’s win. Dobbs Ferry kept the game close in the fourth quarter at 22-14, and intercepted a tipped pass to gain possession with a chance to tie the game. But the Tigers shut down the Eagles the rest of the way and scored twice more to earn the win.

Dobbs Ferry is the defending state champion in Class C, though the makeup of the team is largely different from last season. Still, the win showed coach John D’Arco that his team is taking steps toward its goal.

“There’s a fine line between the good teams and the great teams and we’re closing the gap slowly but surely, week in, week out,” D’Arco said.

Dobbs Ferry coach Jim Moran has not had to talk to his team after a loss for more than a year. He said after the game that two factors were at play in the loss.

“I think we have a long way to go, but I also think they’re a really good team,” Moran said. “Definitely the best team we’ve faced all year, and I’ve seen a bunch of teams this year that we haven’t played. They were the best in my eyes.”

The Tigers’ win showed the rest of Class C that Tuckahoe is for real. But perhaps most important of all, the win may have proved that fact to the Tigers themselves.

“I hope so, but really this week we had a lot of doubt and that was working against us,” Reisman said, “but we knew that was just great motivation and we had to come play hard.”
