Tuckahoe Softball Star Earns Con Edison Scholarship

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – Tuckahoe softball player Casey Stevko was among the scholarship winners at the Con Edison Scholar-Athlete program’s end of the year awards banquet.

On Wednesday night, the county’s finest student-athletes piled into the Westchester Hilton in Rye Brook for the annual awards banquet. Stevko was awarded the Anthony Sabella $5,000 scholarship for her achievements both in and outside the classroom.

Stevko – who will continue her career next year at the University of Pennsylvania – is a two-time all-section shortstop. She founded the Tuckahoe Peer Mentorship Program for Special Needs Students and achieved an unweighted average higher than 98.

Chappaqua resident, and future Harvard student, Dominique Alpuche earned the top prize, the $10,000 Irwin “Red” Klein Scholarship, while the Red Klein runner-up scholarship went to Pelham volleyball player Helen Gandler. North Salem basketball star Umar Singh earned the Charles “Doc” Blanford $5,000 scholarship that is awarded to a student that overcomes obstacles to achieve success.

The scholarships were presented to four student-athletes from among the 36 weekly winners that were announced during the sports season.
