Westchester Resident, Boxing Legend Bert Sugar Dies

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — Boxing writer and historian Bert Sugar has died at the age of 75. ESPN reports that Sugar, who had been battling lung cancer, died of cardiac arrest at Northern Westchester Hospital Sunday, surrounded by family members.

Sugar, considered an authority on the world of boxing, was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2005. He authored dozens of books and attended hundreds of boxing matches, including the three featuring Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. He was often spotted in Chappaqua wearing his trademark fedora while smoking a cigar.

Memorial service plans are pending.
