Last week, the Bronxville Police Department issued a traffic advisory for Midland Avenue from Pondfield Road to Crows Nest Road, as a developing sinkhole has forced authorities to close the roadways, prompting several emergency measures.

Residents living on Library Lane or Midland Avenue between Pondfield and Crows Nest Roads can only access their homes through the intersection of Midland Avenue and Masterton Road. No traffic is permitted northbound on Midland Avenue. Anyone leaving their homes in that area must make a right hand turn and head north on Midland Avenue. When returning, they must do so by entering Midland Avenue from the Masterson Road intersection.

The Bronxville Elementary School pickup will take place on Pondfield Road and Meadow Avenue. The procedures are expected to be in place for as many as two weeks.

According to police, the closure will result in congestion and lengthy delays on roadways in proximity to the school, and motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible, specifically during drop off and pick up times. Police officers will be in the area to assist with traffic control.
