What has happened to Rob Astorino? He's allowed the foolish Republican Party hack leadership first to con him into thinking he could beat Cuomo, and now to overreach with statements like this. Here's a guy who could have been a real statewide Republican leader, and now, he's gonna fizzle because of overripe political advice. What a shame. Most corrupt in NY history??!! Read up, Rob. There's a very long line, many Republican. View Comment
Hmmmm. Questionable, perhaps irresponsible choice. Astorino doesn't want to subject his kids to standards? Maybe he should home school them. If he's willing to shortchange his own kids to make a few political points, just think how much he cares about your kids. View Comment
yeah, sure. That's why she invoked it from the first minute of the trial to the last, and why the Judge had to admonish both her and her counsel to stop with the Kennedy narrative. Grandpa Joe would be proud. View Comment
I am an unabashed Astorino booster, and I think he'd make a great Governor, but after Cuomo finishes his second term. This is not politically smart, and reveals a bit of naiveté on Astorino's part. Reminds me of when Pirro got suckered into running statewide, by consultants and Party bosses and Washington DC types who were more interested in advancing their own agenda.
Rob, please reconsider, and take your shot in four years. I'll be 100% behind you then, but not now. View Comment
one more reason to discount anything Greg Ball has to say about anything. Cuomo's decision to close Interstates in dangerous weather conditions IS common sense. Sorry if it inconvenienced one of your donors, or ex-girlfriends, Greg. View Comment
Simple questions: How come the budget keeps going up while enrollment keeps going down? Why is there always an increase? If Westchester County can hold the line on taxes for 4 years in a row (while their population increased), why can' HHSD do the same for one year? View Comment
Sorry, marjorymmms. I did speak to the substance. DOMA was a disgraceful law when Lowey voted for it and it is disgraceful to remain on the books. And, Lowey is also a disgrace as a leader. She's a follower who has never distinguished herself in Congress. We deserve better. Not a personal attack, but a statement on her caliber as our representative. View Comment
Neeetaaa! Lowey is just another front-running politician. She was against it before she was for it. Where have we heard that one before? Can't we find a real leader to represent us in Congress? Whatever it takes to keep her in office, that's what she's for...or against. The DOMA was a disgrace when she voted for it, and its a disgrace today. Just like Lowey. View Comment
Do these numbskulls realize how much they have contributed to the increase of our property taxes the past ten years?!!
If they propose 'even a relatively small bond' I will walk door-to-door and recruit enraged taxpayers. This must stop. And while we're talking, since when is a new roof a capital expenditure? Shouldn't maintenance reserves be kept for such items? Of course not, in the realm of these incompetents, not if they can use borrowed money, on our reduced credit rating, mind you.
Westchester County has held the line on tax increases three years in a row, while the population grows. Hendrick Hudson grows its budget to the max every year while its school enrollment diminishes. What's wrong with this picture? View Comment
This is an act of outrageous irresponsibility on behalf of The Journal News and Gannett! Give us one semi-good public benefit of your publishing this information. On the other hand, I can give you multiple compelling reasons why this was an irresponsible and meaningless thing to do. I am for reasonable gun control, but your action added nothing to that objective and only served to polarize the debate even further. For shame Journal News. View Comment
Yes, these buildings are dangerous. And, yes they have been abandoned for years! As for the house on Furnace Dock Road, it is a drag on all our property values as well, and unfair that the owner be allowed to impose his neglect on the rest of his neighbors. That Mr. Carbone works in City Hall, at the Tax Assessor's office, is the height of irresponsibility. Ms. Puglise, you run a better ship than that. Take action now without burdening us taxpayers with the formality of a drawn out process. View Comment
