Freeze-Up Follows Storm: Watch For Icy Roads, Walkways, Eastchester

The Nor'easter that brought more than two feet of snow to parts of the Hudson Valley has headed east, now, get set for a big chill as we inch closer to the first day of spring on Monday.

Temperatures will stay below the freezing mark during the daytime and evening both Wednesday and Thursday.

The freeze-up will continue through early Friday as a new blast of frigid Canadian Arctic grips the area that will bring some sudden snow showers to parts of the area.

Residual snow and slush will remain frozen as temperatures struggle to reach the mid- to upper-20s Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

As a result, untreated surfaces will be very slippery, and extra caution should be used while out and about.

In addition, west winds will gust to 30 to 40 miles per hour and  today could bring down branches and power lines.

The cold air will also cause snow squalls on Wednesday with the high temperature staying right below freezing at about 30 degrees.

This will result in icy roads and walkways as residual snow and slush refreezes, the National Weather Service said. Extra caution should be used.

Motorists and pedestrians will need to keep an eye out for patches of ice, which may appear to be wet, and large piles of snow near intersections will make for dangerous conditions, AccuWeather said.

Remember to keep fire hydrants free from snow. When possible, avoid parking on streets where snow has made passages narrow.

In addition, safety officials are warning to make sure the vehicle's tailpipe is also clear.

Each year in the U.S., approximately 500 deaths are attributed to unintentional carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, that includes drivers sitting in their cars while the tailpipe is blocked with snow, according to the Center for Disease Control. For more on that, click here.

Thursday will be mostly sunny, but the high will again be just below freezing.

Friday will be sunny with a high in the mid-30s.

Snow is likely Saturday morning before changing to rain by afternoon as the high temperature climbs above 40.
