TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – With possible heavy snow expected to hit Tuckahoe, officials say the village is preparing for inclement weather ahead of the storm.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch and coastal flood warning for the Northeast that will continue through Saturday morning. Up to 10 inches of snow is expected to accumulate, with wind gusts as high as 55 miles per hour.
In Tuckahoe, all snow-removal vehicles and tools have been prepped for the worst-case scenario, officials said. Roads and sidewalks are currently being coated with brine to reduce the initial freezing and snow accumulation.
According to Mayor Steve Ecklond, the village’s Department of Public Works will be on call this evening, prepared to keep all roads open and clear. Staff will be on standby throughout the weekend and will work extended shifts if the situation calls for it.
Village officials will also determine if normal garbage collection will take place on Friday, depending on the severity of the storm.
