Eastchester's 350-Year History Brought To Life At Anniversary Gala

EASTCHESTER – The gala celebrating the town of Eastchester’s 350th anniversary at the Siwanoy Country Club on Friday night offered more than just a party. The event also featured various tributes to the town’s history.

Above the dance floor, a large image of the 1665 Eastchester Covenant was projected. This document describes the code of civic conduct prescribed by the families who settled the town in the 17th Century.

A direct descendant of Henry Fowler, one of the Covenant’s signatories, delivered a chapter on her family’s legacy. Virginia Kathryn Fish Reynolds Hefti’s family history is also the topic of an October 24 lecture on Fowler. Presented by Eastchester Town Historian Richard Forliano, this lecture will be hosted by the Anne Hutchinson-Bronxville chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Eastchester’s 350-year history will also be explored through the upcoming book, “Out of the Wilderness: A legacy of the 350th Anniversary Celebration of Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville.” It was written by volunteers including writers, teachers and lawyers led by Forliano and Bronxville Village Historian Eloise L. Morgan.
