Eligible candidates are at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma, a high school equivalency diploma issued by any state department or a report from the U.S. armed forces certifying completion general educational development tests at the high school level.
A valid driver’s license is required to operate a motor vehicle in the state of New York at the time of appointment.
Candidates must also pass medical and physical fitness screening tests consistent with National Fire Protection Association 1582 standards prior to appointment.
Before permanent appointment, applicants must complete the authorized training course for firefighters and receive the appropriate training certificate within 18 months of the date of hire.
Applicants are required to submit a Cross Filer Form to the Westchester County Department of Human Resources no less than two weeks prior to the examination.
A complete application form and filling fee must be submitted by Monday, Jan. 26.

Unless otherwise notified, candidates are permitted to use quiet, hand-held solar or battery powered calculators. Devices with typewriter keyboards, spell checkers, personal digital assistants, address books, language translators, dictionaries, or any similar devices are prohibited. Access to books or other reference materials is not allowed during the examination.
