Following a string of auto larcenies in the area, the Tuckahoe, Eastchester and Bronxville Police Department issued a list of common sense tips to help locals avoid becoming the next victim.

According to the police, the burglars are targeting electronic devices such as G.P.S. systems, laptops, audio players and cellphones, though loose change and the personal belongings of some victims have also been taken. There are also reports of several cars being stolen when keys were found in unlocked cars.

To help residents, the departments offered the following plastic points to help halt the larcenies:

  • Always lock your car doors and close the windows.
  • Never leave a G.P.S. unit or other electronic devices in the car.
  • Never leave bags, briefcases or backpacks in plain view, instead use the trunk.
  • Report suspicious persons or activity to the police department immediately.
  • Do not leave car keys in the vehicle.

“Despite several arrests of suspects committing these crimes; there has been a steady wave of criminal opportunists who continue to plague our community,” the Tuckahoe Police Department wrote in a statement. “We are working with our law enforcement partners to address this issue and ask for the public’s assistance.”

In a separate statement, the Eastchester Police Department said that any sightings of suspicious people or vehicles should be reported to their desk at (914) 961-3464.

"Although patrol officers are diligently patrolling your neighborhoods, the best defense from being victimized is a locked vehicle and valuables out of the vehicle or out of sight."
