An Audi that was stolen from a Mount Vernon service center was recovered on the side of the Saw Mill River Parkway in Northern Westchester this week.

The car was stolen from the Classic Audi service center on North MacQuesten Parkway, after its owner dropped off the vehicle on Saturday following an airbag recall that was announced earlier this year.

Police said that the car was found on Tuesday afternoon on the Saw Mill River Parkway and an arrest was made. Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Shawn Harris said no other details were immediately available.

The recall came as part of a coordinated recall of Takata airbag products in tens of millions of vehicles. Long-term exposure to high heat and humidity can cause the bags to explode, and have caused injuries and death, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

There have been 15 fatal incidents and more than 100 motorists have reported injuries following the air bag explosions.

According to a lohud report , the owner of the car, Camilo Samayoa, an Eastchester resident, said that the business refused to accept responsibility for the stolen Audi A4. He reportedly made several attempts to contact the service center, who eventually told him the car was stolen on Sunday night. Officials at the service center could not be reached for comment late on Wednesday afternoon.

Approximately 37 million vehicles equipped with more than 50 million defective Takata airbags are subject to recall, according to to the NHTSA. Consumer Report said that vehicles made by 19 different automakers have been recalled as part of the “largest and most complex safety recall in U.S. history.”
