John Zaremba, Yonkers WW II Veteran, Dies at 106

YONKERS, N.Y. – John Zaremba, a longtime Yonkers resident, died Aug. 28. He was 106. 

Born July 20, 1906, in Austria, Zaremba served in the Army during World War II. He worked at General Motors for more than 35 years, retiring in 1966. He was a member of the St. Casimir's Holy Name Society, St. Casimir's Seniors Group and the St. Casimir's Prayer Group. 

Zaremba was married to Anne Zojkowski Zaremba, who predeceased him. He was a resident of Andrus on Hudson in Hastings for the last nine years. 

He was predeceased by six sisters, Catherine Yacko, Marie Kirkpatrick, Nell Bertha-Burke, Anne Gaqlle, Stacias Lee and Adviene Walker; and two brothers, Anthony and Victor Zaremba. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. 

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday at St. Casimir's Church. Duchynski-Cherko Funeral Home handled arrangements.
