After the 2009 Kia was swiped from the 7-Eleven parking lot on Jackson Avenue, Detectives Russell Snyder and Joseph Espinoza went to 11th Avenue in Paterson, a popular heroin neighborhood.

They found the Kia and took 26-year-old Jesse McCallum, who was driving it, into custody, Police Chief John Russo said this afternoon.

McCallum later confessed to taking the vehicle — as well as a 2004 Honda from the driveway of a Union Avenue resident on April 18 , the chief said.

In both thefts, the owners left the cars running.

McCallum was out on bail after taking a 2014 Ford Explorer from the front of a Union Avenue restaurant and leading Nutley police on a brief chase March 31. He eventually crashed on northbound Route 21 and was arrested trying to run away by a Passaic officer.

McCallum remained held on $20,000 bail today in the Bergen County Jail.
