Beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the high school library, parents with children entering grades six through eight are invited to meet the woman tasked with leading the school as it embarks on several initiatives.

McDonnell, who served as an administrator for five years in the Rye City School District, is set to take the reigns of the school over from Principal Timothy Mundell, whose resignation becomes official on June 30.

In Rye, McDonnell served in three different administrative capacities, while she was an assistant administrator of curriculum in math and science while serving as a tenured math teacher at John Jay High School in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District. She has a master’s degree from Cornell University and is in the process of completing her doctorate at Manhattanville College.

According to Nuzzi, the district pored over more than 150 candidates for the position before determining that McDonnell was the top choice for the job.

“(She) clearly stood out as the top choice as someone who will be able to translate our new mission to prepare every student for excellence,” she said about the hire.

When McDonnell’s appointment in Tuckahoe was announced, her former Superintendent of Schools in Rye, Frank Alvarez, expressed regret at losing his administrator.

“She has done a terrific job in Rye, and she has gained everyone’s respect,” he said. “She’s a treasure, a true leader, a hard worker and she has an outstanding background in curriculum, instruction, data analysis and technology.”

Parents interested in attending the meet and greet with Principal McDonnell should e-mail PTA@tuckahoe.lhric.org, or call Danielle at (914) 843-2141.
