Eastchester Blue Devils Take Three From New City

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The home-standing Eastchester Blue Devils’ Mitey Mites, Pee Wees and Junior Midgets earned victories in games against New City opponents at Haindle Field.

The Mitey Mites’ offensive line led the way in a 14-6 victory over the visiting Rams with center Luke Phillips throwing a block that led to a score by tight end Ryan Cooper for a 6-0 lead. Derek Robertson added the extra point.

“Our offensive line did a remarkable job holding blocks to allow huge gains from our backs,” Coach Chris Cooper said.

Jack Brien scored for the Devils to make it 13-0 and the extra point was good on a pass to Goske Kato.

The Mites next play Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Orangetown.

Blue Devils Pee Wees 18, New City 13

The Blue Devils offense was led by the passing combination of Lamont McGriff to Brandon Gasparre, who connected for two touchdowns

The offensive line blocking of Nicholas Timpone, John Ventresca and Angelo DiPaola anchored the offense. The defense was keyed by the tackling of Nicholas Genova, Jaris Curcio and KJ Popov.

The unbeaten Pee Wees (3-0) visit Orangetown Sunday.

Blue Devils Midgets 14, New City 0

Both teams emphasized the running game, run defense and special teams in a hard-fought battle. The difference in the game was the defense of Eastchester and the offensive patience and calm of the quarterback Mike A., and running backs Jordan Gunther, Christian Roselle and John Guido who controlled the ball with well over 150 rushing yards between them.

Roselle caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Mike A. for a 7-0 Devils lead. Guido ran the ball well, rolling for two first downs that gave the Devils momentum in the second half. Gunther scored from 35 yards out for the 14-0 final score.

The defense was keyed by Tommy Murphy, Bryson Welch, Zack Zimbardo and the Blume brothers.

New City 18, Blue Devils Junior Pee Wees 6

The Eastchester Blue Devils Jr. Pee Wee team went into Sunday’s game looking to improve upon their season record of 2-0-0 but New City’s running game opened a 12-0 lead.

The highlight of the game for the Blue Devils was a 60-yard pass play from quarterback Constantine Caviris to C.J. Watford, who split two defenders over the middle. Caviris placed a well-timed pass hitting his receiver in full stride for the Devils lone score.

Nick Loparrino, Joe Ciafone, Ali Gokhan and Mike Santorelli played well for the offense.

Defensive coach Nick Timpone pointed to Marc Loparrino, Giovanni Russo, Sammy Rodriguez and Drew Walpole for strong play throughout the day.

The Jr. Pee Wees next travel to Suffern on Sunday to meet the Suffern Mounties.
