Tuckahoe Falls to Bronxville in Border Battle

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Bronxville’s balanced offensive attack, powered by the arm of quarterback Max Boyd, the legs of running back Christian Conway and hands of receiver Matt Tormey, wore down visiting Tuckahoe Saturday as the Broncos rolled up a 33-12 victory in a battle of state football champions at Bronxville High School.

“We’ve been able to move the ball on the ground with Christian and Jackson Conway,” Boyd said. “With Matt, we have a guy who is hard to cover because he has height and great hands. I was able to learn a lot last year getting into games early when we had leads. I think that helped us come together on offense this year.”

Bronxville (3-0), the defending Class C state champion, ran its current overall winning streak to 15 games straight dating back to a state playoff loss in 2010. The Broncos have won 21 consecutive area Section 1 games. Tuckahoe (2-1), the current Class D state title holder, had not allowed a point in its first two wins until meeting its neighborhood rival.

Boyd found Tormey several times to help set up Bronxville’s running star Christian Conway, who ran behind blocking twin brother Jackson for 214 yards and four touchdowns of eight, 24, 32 and 20 yards.

The game was intense through a first half filled with penalties, turnovers and big plays with Bronxville holding a scant 14-12 halftime lead. Conway scored from eight yards out to open the scoring and Boyd and Tormey connected on a 10-yard scoring play for the second Broncos' score.

Shyheim Nixon, Nick Reisman, Kayvon Reid and Moss played well on defense in the first half, forcing a fumble and stuffing the Broncos running game early.

Tuckahoe answered early with a Mike Castracucco five-yard touchdown pass to Gary Moss, The Tigers missed the extra point  and trailed 7-6.

At 14-6, Nick Reisman blasted in from the one-yard line for Tuckahoe and to make the score 14-12 at the half.

Conway took over in the second half and rolled through the Tigers for three more scores.

Castracucco moved the Tigers well in the first half and completed 7 of 13 passes for 42 yards, but the Tuckahoe running games, which rolled up nearly 300 yards last week in a victory over Magnus, gained just 154 yards. Moss caught four passes for 24 yards.

Bronxville visits Rye Neck next Saturday at 3 p.m. due to SAT exams.

Tuckahoe will visit Dobbs Ferry Friday at 7 p.m. in a big league matchup.
