Playing against some of the top talent in the northeast, the under-11 TYA Orange Crush made it to the championship round before being knocked off by the Maryland state champion Marlton 7-4.

Championship teams from Maryland, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania all competed in the tournament.

The Orange Crush started sluggishly, falling to the northwest Pennsylvania champions from Delaware Valley before rallying to beat Marlton and the New Jersey champs from Pershing. Tuckahoe’s two wins in pool play on Saturday were good enough to qualify them for a spot in the semifinals on Sunday.

Facing the Brandywine Youth Club, with a spot in the championship on the line, the Orange Crush saw their bats come alive. The home team knocked in seven runs on a pair of home runs and cruised past the southeast Pennsylvania champions 14-4.

In the finals, Marlton avenged their loss in pool play, topping the Orange Crush 7-4 to take the trophy.

The Orange Crush were led by head coach Jerry DeFabbia. The roster was Jonathan Berger, Griffin Brocchini, Nate Davis, John DeAngelis, Anthony DeFabbia, Greg Fusco, Jack Gentry, Jackson Goodman, Aidan Henegar, Jack Hommeyer, Justin Lee, Matt Mondrone, Max Mullen and Clark Stephens.

“The Crush really rose to the occasion and left everything they had on the field,” DeFabbia said. “I could not be more proud of what these 14 young men accomplished.”
