Plenty To Do At Westchester County Parks On Labor Day Weekend

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- County parks have a full schedule of activities planned for Labor Day weekend. So if you’re staying in town for the holiday, check out these events.

Saturday -- “Life’s a Gall,” from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. at the Lenoir Preserve on Dudley Street, Yonkers, will discuss how galls form and what may be living inside. Call 914 968-5851 for information.

Saturday and Sunday -- Artwork from the Hope Friedland Group will be exhibited at Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers, noon until 4 p.m. Call– 914 864-7282 for information. This exhibit will also be on display the following three weekends, ending Sept. 27.

Sunday -- There will be a Fall Bird Migration Hike at the Marshlands Conservancy on Route 1 in Rye (Boston Post Road) from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. Bring binoculars to watch birds heading south for the winter in the Meadow from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Call 914-864-7282 to register.

Sunday - Also on Sunday are historical simulations of colonial customers. A farmers market runs from 10 a.m. -- 3 p.m. at Muscoot Farm, Route100, Somers -- 914-864-7282 for information. It will also be open every Sunday in September.

Friction Fire Workshop will be at the farm 10 a.m. –-- 3 p.m., and teaches how to build a fire and make a firebox. There is a $40 fee and pre-registration is required: 914 864-7286.

Weather Folklore runs from– 1 p.m. -- 3 p.m. Participants will learn how farmers of old predicted weather.

Monday - Another Morning Bird Walk is scheduled Labor Day, Sept. 7 at Muscoot Farm from 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m.
