EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Operation Prom, a nonprofit organization that provides resources and mentoring to students in need, will celebrate its ninth anniversary at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester on Thursday.
From 6 to 9 p.m., Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino will join Noel DAllaco, the founder and executive director of Operation Prom, at the country club to celebrate the anniversary.
Operation Prom, based in Bronxville, has helped thousands of high school students afford their senior proms. Its success in Westchester County has spurred the creation of similar programs in Georgia, Texas, Florida, Colorado and New Jersey. The countys Department of Social Services has supported the organization for three years.
DAllaco and the staff at Operation Prom collect gently used dresses and distribute them to high school students who may not otherwise be able to afford to attend their proms. The agency also has tuxedo rentals for boys in need.
Earlier this year, Astorino and Commissioner of Social Services Kevin McGuire received the organizations Golden Tuxedo award for their support.
Thursdays event will also honor county salons that have helped Operation Prom by serving as dress drop-off locations and allowing girls to get their hair done for free. The salons include Flashy Makeup Services in Tarrytown, Le Loft Salon and Spa in Pleasantville, Nicholas Day Spa in Pelham, and Salon Post of Mamaroneck.
