Last year, more than 825 runners and walkers participated in the race, raising $10,000 that was used to help fund new bleachers and a press box at the Eastchester High School. This year, organizers are expecting a larger turnout, with the proceeds going to benefit the Eastchester Public Library.

Sponsored by the Eastchester Irish American Social Club, the race – which will kick off at 9 a.m., rain or shine on Sunday Sept. 27 – is for runners and walkers of all ages and experience levels. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in seven different age groups, from 12-years-old and under to 60 and older.

Pre-registration has begun for the second annual Eastchester 5K, with early bird entry fees through Thursday. Registrants can pick up their race number between 4 and 7 p.m. on the day before the event at the library. The race location start will be at Eastchester Town Hall the following day.
