Yonkers native and Clarkstown North High School graduate Adam Rodriguez will make his debut as a series regular on the CBS-TV show, "Criminal Minds," playing the role of special agent Luke Alvez at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Rodriguez, who had played a similar role on another CBS show, "CSI: Miami," joined the "Criminal Minds" cast just weeks after the firing of longtime star Thomas Gibson made headlines.

The 54-year-old Gibson's firing came after he was suspended for kicking a writer on the set of the show during a dispute, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The 41-year-old Rodriguez, who graduated from Clarkstown North in 1993, began acting after an injury shortened his baseball career in high school.

Rodriguez will play FBI Fugitive Task Force agent Luke Alvez on "Criminal Minds," who joins the Behavioral Analysis Unit following the departure of another acting star, Shemar Moore, who had previously announced he had decided to leave the show.
