Eastchester Beautification Group Bestows Yellow Rose Awards

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Eastchester Beautification Foundation presented yellow roses recently in recognition of two major town beautification projects at an awards ceremony at Town Hall.

The projects are the 350th Town of Eastchester’s Anniversary Celebration and the Eastchester Library landscaping project.

The Yellow Rose Awards recognize these properties for adding to the aesthetic value of the Eastchester community through major renovations.

Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita Jr. welcomed guests and award winners Nov. 2, and co-presidents of the foundation board, Maura McMahon and Judith Blau, presented the traditional single yellow rose with a Grand or Classic award certificate for each winner. 

Town Clerk Linda Laird accepted the award on behalf of the anniversary committee. Tracy Wright, library director, on behalf of the Library Board and Friends of the Library, accepted the 2015 Yellow Rose Grand Award for the landscaping project at the Eastchester Library.

The following received individual grand awards:

Jacqueline Vasquez, the 350th anniversary event planner; Joseph Blau for landscape architecture to redesign the plantings and plans for Eastchester’s Oakridge Park; Dominick Gizzo and John Gherardi for the maintenance of the Town Center planted traffic islands and lamppost baskets; Patrick Gasparro from Nature’s Cradle for his pro bono work and support of EBF projects; Dave Flannery, Boy Scout Leader, Troop 353, and Scout James Poletti for volunteerism on the library project; Jennifer Read, leader of Girl Scout Troop 251, for directing the scouts' planting and maintaining project for the Library Reading Garden; Joe Forgione, A&J Sprinkler Systems, for volunteering time to repair the library's sprinkler systems; Joe Arcidiacono, JMA Landscaping, for the design, time, crew and materials to transplant and install foundation plantings
