Bronxville Lego Club Hottest Ticket in Village

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The third meeting of the Lego Club held at the Bronxville Library this Saturday was so popular that more than 50 kids showed up

"I did have to turn away several kids," said librarian Erin Shirota, who runs the program. "It was too late and we had no more room."

The program began in November with 20 kids attending one session. After a packed second session in December, Shirota decided to add a second class to the third session.

"I may have to add one more," Shirota said.

Kids between the ages of 5 and 12 are given a set of rules such as no putting any Legos in electrical sockets or your mouth, and no taking someone's Legos off their work space. Then they were allowed to grab handfuls of the colorful building blocks and got busy creating a project based on the theme of the month. This month's theme was spaceships.

The popular program is growing exponentially, with the Tuckahoe Library starting a Lego club later this month.

The Bronxville one will meet again on Feb. 4. Pre-registration is required.
