Change Purses Stolen from Unlocked Tuckahoe Car

Margaret Schulz, of Tuckahoe, had a small surprise while leaving home to go to church, on Monday just before noon.

"I opened the car and I said, 'Oh, oh. I think someone has been in my car,'" said Schulz, 80.

Two small change purses were missing from the glove compartment of her 2007 white Toyota Camry, parked in front of her house at Henry Street. One purse had about a dollar in coins and the other a couple of single dollar bills, she said. It wasn't much money, but she still decided to call the police.

"I just thought they should know," she said.

She had forgotten to lock the car the day before, and the police advised her to be more careful, she said.

Sgt. Chris Aubry, of Tuckahoe Police Department, said that some cars were recently burglarized in that area.

"It's always a good idea to lock your car, especially when you are close to a major route like Route 22," he said.
