Westchester Sears, Kmarts Spared in Initial Closings List

Sears Holding Company, which operates both Sears and Kmart stores, announced Thursday 79 of the more than 100 stores that are scheduled to close due to declining revenues.

None of the stores on the chopping block are located in New York or within the tri-state area.  The stores employ about 40-80 associates, according to the announcement, although the company said it could not provide the total number of associates who will be impacted by the change.

Two days after Christmas, the company announced that a steep decline in holiday sales left the company re-evaluating itself. The closing of 100-120 stores is one such priority in keeping Sears Holding company profitable, according to the announcement.

The list spares stores in Westchester such as the Kmart in Yorktown and Sears in the Jefferson Valley Mall, the Sears in White Plains, the Sears at the Cross County Chopping Center in Yonkers, as well as stores visited by Westchester residents including the Sears in the Danbury Fair Mall, as well as the Kmart in Mahopac.
