EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- James T. Quigley of Eastchester died on Sunday, Feb. 22. He was 87.
He was born in the Bronx to James J. and Nellie (Kane) Quigley on March 6, 1927.
Quigley was raised in the Bronx and graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School where he played baseball. He joined the Marine Corps out of high school and served during World War II. After being discharged he became a butcher for the A&P Co. He then joined the New York City Police Dept. in 1952 where he served for 22 years, first as a patrol officer, then as a plain clothes officer and finally attaining the rank of sergeant in the Emergency Services Unit. He stayed in this unit until his retirement in 1974.
A lifelong football Giants fan, Quigley enjoyed playing golf in his spare time and fishing on Lake George.
Quigley is survived by his wife of 65 years Elizabeth, his daughter Susan (Kenneth) Kienle of Southington, Conn., his son James J. (Susan) Quigley of Brewster, N.Y. grandchildren Sean Kienle of Waterbury, Conn., Beth (Sebastian) Kienle-Granzo of Cambridge, Mass., Andrew Eisenhower of Astoria Queens, N.Y., and sisters Roberta Muldoon of Pearl River, N.Y., and Betty Howard of Troutville, Va.
The family will receive friends at the Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 27 at 10:30 a.m. Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe.
