Port Chester Man Charged in Eastchester Hit-And-Run

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – With the help of a tip from the victim of a hit-and-run accident, Eastchester Police were able to nab a Port Chester driver accused of striking a fellow motorist on Mill Road.

According to Eastchester Police Det. Sgt. Matthew Kiernan, Rolando Martinez of Port Chester was driving a gray van shortly before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday when he struck another vehicle at the intersection of Mill and Joyce roads. The victim was able to provide police with a partial license plate identification and informed them that the plates were from out of state.

Police received a phone call at 1:30 p.m. from a town employee who informed them that someone had left the van behind a store on White Plains Road. Police secured the van, and identified the suspect from a picture in a wallet he left behind.

The vehicle was impounded by police personnel, who proceeded to track down the 26-year-old driver. Martinez was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, and was cited for circumventing a court-mandated ignition interlock system from a previous charge of driving under the influence.

Martinez’s mother posted $300 bail at the Eastchester Police Department to let her son loose. However, due to a previous charge of the same nature in New York City, he had to be detained until he could be transported. As of Friday afternoon, he was still in Eastchester police custody.
