State Police announced the arrest of Tuckahoe resident Ken Suwabe, who was arrested in Clarkstown after being stopped on the New York State Thruway for routine traffic violations on Saturday afternoon.

Shortly after 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, troopers stopped Suwabe, who was driving northbound on I-87 near exit 12, police say. During the subsequent stop, troopers reported that they observed several small plastic bags of crystal methamphetamine in plain view as they approached the vehicle.

According to police, when Suwabe exited his vehicle during the stop, he had a loaded .45-caliber pistol holstered on his belt. He was then taken into custody.

During the search of Suwabe’s vehicle, police said that they recovered six additional loaded handguns, a loaded AR-15 assault rifle, a pistol silencer, high-capacity ammunition magazines and small quantities of pills, cocaine and heroin.

Police said that Suwabe does not have a permit to possess firearms in New York.

Suwabe was arrested and charged with eight counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, nine counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance for the methamphetamine and five counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

After being arrested, Suwabe was arraigned before the Town of Clarkstown Justice Scott Ugell and was remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
